The One-Punch Man anime adaptation has had significant challenges to its production ever since its beloved first season, adapted by Madhouse. As the series adapts Yusuke Murata's incredible manga based on ONE's webcomic, it is set up to recreate a large portion of the Monster Association Arc at its current pacing. However, an intrepid One-Punch Man YouTuber DPDM posted on X with a question he asked the anime's character designer, Chikashi Kubota, raising concerns about whether its production is going smoothly.

After the controversial second season of One-Punch Man, it's fair for fans to be reasonably worried as J.C.Staff never quite nailed the anime's experience like Madhouse in the first season. Season 3 is likely building the anime up towards a massive fight with Garou and other threats like the leader of the Monster Association, Orochi. While Kubota's remarks, intentionally vague as a response to a single question, shouldn't be taken to heart, they may confirm people's doubts about One-Punch Man's production.

While it remains to be seen what problems Kubota means with One-Punch Man, DPDM alludes to the possibility that things aren't going as planned in season 3. In response to DPDM's question concerning whether One-Punch Man season 3 is going smoothly, Kurota said, "I can't really say anything, but there might be some problems." Whether these are mundane issues are not is anybody's guess, as DPDM only got a chance for one question. Still, with J.C.Staff's reputation from the first season, and judging from fan reactions to the conversation, not everything is going according to plan for One-Punch Man.
However, this information is hardly substantive or damning for the project as a whole, and as DPDM mentions in his replies, it's not meant to sound any alarms for the production of the anime. Responses to the post indicate overall appreciation for him broaching the subject, especially as there's been a string of disappointing updates for One-Punch Man season 3. But as many fans can attest, after seeing season 2, even an offhand remark about anticipated problems can help temper expectations for new One-Punch Man content.

One-Punch Man Needs to Recapture the Visuals of Its Debut in Season 3
The Ultimate Sophomore Slump
It's no understatement that fans were amazed by the brilliant first season of One-Punch Man, thanks to the sterling studio Madhouse's production, making it one of the best anime seasons ever. Season 2's production included a changing of studios, resulting in a lack of memorable directorial output like from season 1's Shingo Natsume of Sonny Boy and Space Dandy fame and a noticeable drop in visual and audio quality. With recent character visual teases showing greater attention to detail in One-Punch Man season 3, it's clear that J.C.Staff is acknowledging at least some of the concerns.

One-Punch Man continues other stories in the Neo Heroes Saga, but not without one tantalizing glimpse of Saitama's possible confrontation with God.

One-Punch Man's biggest hurdle for season 3 is largely to step out of season 1's shadow without the most glaring issues such as sound effects or overall animation from season 2. Given that the anime will build up Garou's role in the series, and play out a large portion of the Monster Association Arc setting up climactic fights like those with Orochi and Psykos, expectations are high. Whether or not Kubota's mention of "problems" is minor, it's crucial not to get one's hopes up similarly to when One-Punch Man season 2 was released, as hopeful as season 3's production seems.
